The mission of Chicago Commons is to help individuals, families and communities to overcome poverty, discrimination and isolation. It is the same today as it was in 1894, the year of our founding by the social reformer, Graham Taylor. Graham Taylor's vision was to create a community of people that worked with--and not for--people, helping them overcome obstacles by building on strengths and assets.
Chicago Commons creates programs that build self-sufficiency, strengthening individuals at key stages of their lives. We have continually focused our efforts on serving Chicago neighborhoods with the greatest challenges and the fewest opportunities. Chicago Commons is committed to partnering with and helping Chicago's socially and economically disadvantaged through effective programs.
