Public Private Ventures - Strategies for Expanding the Employment Networks of Low-Income People

Public/Private Ventures is a national nonprot organization that seeks to improve the effectiveness of social policies and programs. P/PV designs, tests and studies initiatives that increase supports, skills and opportunities of residents of low-income communities; works with policymakers to see that the lessons and evidence produced are reflected in policy; and provides training, technical assistance and learning opportunities to practitioners based on documented effective practices.

The familiar phrase “It is not what you know, but who you know that matters reflects a common recognition of the importance of employment networks for success in the labor market. This chapter explores what we mean when we talk about employment networks, why they are important and how they function for lowincome job seekers. i.c.stars is a featured organization in this chapter.
