Chicago, IL (February 13, 2008) — Geneca, a custom software development company, announced today a $30,000 contribution to i.c.stars, a non-profit organization that provides IT career programs to inner city young adults, in 2008.

Ten percent of the Geneca contribution will go toward expanding the scholarship program while the remaining 90 percent will provide financing for overall growth and organizational help to create a self-sustaining business model for i.c.stars.

An active sponsor of i.c.stars since 2004, Geneca donated $25,000 in 2006, of which 25 percent went to help i.c.stars launch its scholarship fund. The remaining 75 percent helped support the technology leadership program. Geneca also helped establish an i.c.stars partnership with DePaul University. The partnership consists of an agreement that DePaul accept all i.c.stars alumni into its Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems (CTI) and School of New Learning (SNL) Bachelors programs.

“i.c.stars graduates make real and valuable contributions to community leadership, and we believe that financially supporting this cause is very important,” said Geneca CEO Mark Hattas. “We are privileged to put graduating students to work. We know the importance of grooming future industry leaders and this is a great opportunity to make a direct impact and better prepare graduates for real-world experiences.”

i.c.stars President and Co-Founder Sandee Kastrul noted that the i.c.stars scholarship fund is supported by contributions from i.c.stars alumni and corporate donations. A long-term leadership model for alumni includes expectations for ongoing participation and a “giving back” model.

“We are extremely grateful to Geneca and all the donors that helped our scholarship program evolve and are thrilled about the opportunity this program presents to our interns,” Kastrul commented. “Not only will they be accepted academically, but now they also have the opportunity to compete for scholarships that will ease the financial burden of higher education.”

i.c.stars expects to award two scholarships in 2008 based on student contributions to the community and embodiment of the i.c.stars vision.
