Growing Up Geek

In 1999 Leslie Beller and Sandee Kastrul had a dream. Not unlike many workers devoted to the development of underserved individuals, these women saw a disconnect between opportunity and relevant training.

i.c.stars was born from the creative teaching methods, and hardcore business skills of these women with the vision to develop 1,000 community leaders in 10 years.

It's been an interesting road so far.

In May 2000, i.c.stars finds a home with closerlook on the 5th floor, which gives room for i.c.stars first training Cycle.

In 2001, Eric Lannert is hired as the Vice President of technology, and develops and facilitaes the intensive technology training.

We also began stragic planning for program development, recruitment, and growth.
In 2002, i.c.stars expanded it's program to 4 months, and to include a career month.

In 2003, i.c.stars held it's first annual stakeholders event, asking..."what if MLK was the CEO of GE?" i.c.stars economic impact crosses the $1,000,000 milestone.

In 2004, Harvy Miller, patron, reminds us that..."the most important thin about growth is not to let it dilute quality."

i.c.stars begins it's 7th Training Cycle.

In 2005, i.c.stars partners with West Monroe Partners to celebrate Women executives and technologists with it's Womens Warrior's Series.

i.c.stars also hires, alumna, Thressa "Ts" Thomas as Director of Community and Client relations to further develop recruitment and community partnerships.

In 2006, i.c.stars finishes it's 10th training cycle and begins to lay the foundation for growth.

In 2007, i.c.stars hires Theresa Riley as Director of Career Services.
i.c.stars also gears up and prepares to expand in the Fall with Cycle 14, that started in Sept 07 and Cycle 15 to start in November.

i.c.stars also grows into it's new training space on the 2nd floor at 212 W. Superior!!
